Japan's Response to Nuclear Disaster, Silly Anime Cartoon
On the one hand this is good for preventing people from panicking, but at the same time, it might be oversimplifying the situation. Get up to date info about Japan's nuclear radiation here:
Japan Radiation Maps
This video was created based on the simple analysis of the current state of the Fukushima Nuclear power plant by media artist Kazuhiko Hachiya (@hachiya on twitter).
Neither Mr. Hachiya nor video creator is an expert on the subject, and we advise you to obtain accurate information from the Tokyo Electric Power Company, the government and especially independent environmental monitoring agencies.

What Does the Earthquake 'Magnitude' Measurement Mean
We've all heard earthquakes described in terms of their magnitude number. But what does this scale really mean? This video illustrates the variation of energy released in easy-to-understand terms.

Tokyo has clearly moved on from the disaster of the March 2011 earthquake/tsunami/nuclear-meltdown, but in the aftermath, many questions still remain. Such as why spent fuel rods have not yet been removed and exactly when TEPCO and the Japanese government will accept full responsibility and admit that they need outside help from the rest of the world to complete the clean up and secure the situation at Fukushima reactors 3 and 4 especially. So much culture and beauty of the great nation of Japan depends on this honesty to prevent what some experts say would be a mandatory evacuation of Tokyo if another major natural disaster struck near the battered nuclear power plants in Fukushima.

Akira Kurosawa predicted the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster in Japan
Exactly one year and 1 month after the Earthquake-Tsunami-Nuclear reactor meltdown disaster I happened across this clip from my all-time favorite film, Akira Kurosawa's Dreams reminding me that Akira Kurosawa predicted the dangers of Japan's increasing reliance on nuclear energy. I'm also happy to learn that 52 out of 54 nuclear reactors are now in cold shutdown as a precaution, and may even be de-commissioned if the Citizens' Nuclear Information Center of Japan has their way.
Ganbatte (good luck to them)!

Japan Debris Headed Towards US, Canadian West Coast
The vast field of debris from the Japanese Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that's floating towards in the Pacific ocean is due to arrive in North America soon. One analyst said: "If you put a major city through a trash grinder and sprinkle it on the water, that's what you're dealing with" (NPR). Some of the debris to hit the West Coast may also unfortunately be radioactive following the devastation at Japanese nuclear power plants. The debris field includes cars, whole houses and even severed feet in shoes.
A vast field of debris, swept out to sea following the Japan earthquake and tsunami, is floating towards the U.S. and Canadian West Coast, it has emerged. More than 200,000 buildings were washed out by the enormous waves that followed the 9.0 quake on March 11.
Scientists say the first bits of debris from Japan are due to reach the West Coast in a year's time after being carried by currents toward Washington, Oregon and California.
They will then turn toward Hawaii and back again toward Asia, circulating in what is known as the North Pacific Gyre,

Arnie Gundersen - New Containment Flaw found in Fukushima BW
Fairewinds shows that the nuclear industry's plan to vent the containment at Fukushima Daiichi could not have prevented a containment failure and the ensuing explosions. Look at the graphics from the containment stress tests conducted more than 40 years ago at a US nuclear reactor identical to Fukushima Daiichi Unit 1. This video and its graphics provide important clues about why Fukushima Daiichi Unit 1 exploded.

Japan in Denial of Massive Radioactive Contamination Spread
Newly released neutron data from three University of California San Diego scientists confirms Fairewinds' April analysis that the nuclear core at Fukushima Daiichi turned on and off after TEPCO claimed its reactors had been shutdown. This periodic nuclear chain reaction (inadvertent criticality) continued to contaminate the surrounding environment and upper atmosphere with large doses of radioactivity.
In a second area of concern, Fairewinds disagrees the NRC's latest report claiming that all Fukushima spent fuel pools had no problems following the earthquake. In a new revelation, the NRC claims that the plutonium found more than 1 mile offsite actually came from inside the nuclear reactors. If such a statement were true, it indicates that the nuclear power plant containments failed and were breached with debris landing far from the power plants themselves. Such a failure of the containment system certainly necessitates a complete review of all US reactor containment design and industry assurances that containments will hold in radioactivity in the event of a nuclear accident. The evidence Fairewinds reviewed to date continues to support its April analysis that the detonation in the Unit 3 Spent Fuel pool was the cause of plutonium found off site.
Third, the burning of radioactive materials (building materials, trees, lawn grass, rice straw) by the Japanese government will cause radioactive Cesium to spread even further into areas within Japan that have been previously clean, and across the Pacific Ocean to North America.
And finally, the Japanese government has yet to grasp the severity of the contamination within Japan, and therefore has not developed a coherent plan mitigate the accident and remediate the environment. Without a cohesive plan to deal with this ongoing problem of large scale radioactive contamination, the radioactivity will continue to spread throughout Japan and around the globe further exacerbating the problem and raising costs astronomically.

Ring of Fire - Earthquakes Caused by Elenin?
We all know that we have been having lots of seismic activity lately. The largest earthquakes seem to be happening when Earth is lined up with Comet Elenin. Is it a coincidence? It's worth exploring. We do just that in this video. I actually pointed to the New Guinea instead of New Zealand, whoops. :-) Track Elenin via NASA. http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=C%2F2010+X1&orb=1

After three days, a 4-month-old baby was found alive amongst the debris in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture within the Tohoku region of Japan which was battered by an Earthquake and Tsunami on Friday, March 12th, 2011.
According to news reports, she was reunited with her father shortly after being saved by members of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces rescue crew.
This is an amazing and inspiring story, considering the other photos and reports coming out of Japan.
UPDATE:
