Tokyo Still Bustling

Tokyo has clearly moved on from the disaster of the March 2011 earthquake/tsunami/nuclear-meltdown, but in the aftermath, many questions still remain. Such as why spent fuel rods have not yet been removed and exactly when TEPCO and the Japanese government will accept full responsibility and admit that they need outside help from the rest of the world to complete the clean up and secure the situation at Fukushima reactors 3 and 4 especially. So much culture and beauty of the great nation of Japan depends on this honesty to prevent what some experts say would be a mandatory evacuation of Tokyo if another major natural disaster struck near the battered nuclear power plants in Fukushima.

Help and resources for Japan's Earthquake and Tsunami victims is available through the various People Finding Tools for Victims / Survivors North-east Japan has been swamped by a major tsunami - and the entire Pacific region is now on alert. It was caused by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck 130 kilometres off the eastern coast - sending a reported 10-metre wall of water inland, causing widespread devastation. 32 people are confirmed dead - but that number's expected to rise. The wave has also reached Russia's Kuril islands to the north, reportedly around a metre high. In Japan, 200 people have reportedly been washed away, with several others missing in Japan's Sendai city. Tokyo's been all-but shut down - with fires and injuries widely reported there. Millions are without electricity. Norita International Airport is also closed. 20 powerful aftershocks have been recorded since the first quake, which was the strongest ever recorded in Japan - and the 6th biggest-ever. An earthquake has now been felt in Hawaii - measuring 4.5 - with tsunami waves expected within a few hours.

Making Future Magic

This film explores playful uses for the increasingly ubiquitous ‘glowing rectangles’ that inhabit the world.

We use photographic and animation techniques that were developed to draw moving 3-dimensional typography and objects with an iPad. In dark environments, we play movies on the surface of the iPad that extrude 3-d light forms as they move through the exposure. Multiple exposures with slightly different movies make up the stop-frame animation.

Tokyo Dance Trooper in Shibuya

More at DannyChoo.com

Previous version made it to the top of starwars.com (a snapshot of it).

Was rather happy when Lucasfilm sent mail saying that it gave them a giggle ;-)

Video was shot right after the party that YouTube invited us to - the "YouTube Mix" in Omotesando where we got to meet the co-founder of YouTube Steve Chen. T'was a great party.

This time round, the codpiece came off half way through so we didn't shoot that much this time. Going to glue that codpiece down and attempt to do some more dancing in another location around Tokyo. Music by the fabulous group Uniting Nations
