Douglas Engelbart - The Mother of All Demos (1968)

"The Mother of All Demos" is a name given retrospectively to Douglas Engelbart's December 9, 1968, demonstration of experimental computer technologies that are now commonplace. The live demonstration featured the introduction of the computer mouse, video conferencing, teleconferencing, hypertext, word processing, hypermedia, object addressing and dynamic file linking, bootstrapping, and a collaborative real-time editor.

What is Meaningful Use?

The Future of US Healthcare by Barry Bittman, MD. It's not surprising that every hospital and health institution in America is facing a substantial degree of uncertainty concerning the future of our nation's healthcare. While the writing on the wall certainly includes Accountable Care Organizations, Bundled Payments, Insurance Exchanges, Core Measures, HCAHPS, Meaningful Use and Value-based Purchasing, the precise nature of that which will ultimately shape and enable our healthcare system to survive is at best, uncertain. The real question is how can we improve and sustain our healthcare for future generations? Highly politicized, the Affordable Care Act is poorly understood and widely debated. Yet what appears to be universally agreed upon is a series of remarkably straightforward goals referred to as the Triple Aim: improving the health of populations, improving the experience of care, and reducing per capita healthcare costs. The pressure is building. Undoubtedly, something has to give. REM - It's The End Of The World As We Know It

Interesting slide-show set to REM's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" from their 1987 album Document.

A question worth contemplating is how eerily prophetic the line "Six O'clock TV Hour, Don't Get Caught in Foreign Towers" is, especially as lead singer Michael Stipe admitted to having dreams about being in a room of famous people with the initials L.B, while Bin Laden's initials read right-to-left (as the Arabic language is) are also LB.

Sloan - The Answer Was You

I woke up somewhere in the middle I turned to my left, oh man, now all I could see Was a question posed as a riddle I thought to myself "it's a reflection of me" But it's you Oh yeah you all along If losing this game still won me the bronze I'll sell both our tickets, we'll sit on the lawns And hey, be cool for the interview I don't recall the question, but clearly the answer was you Oh yeah you all along Oh yeah you, oh yeah you all along No need to be concerned, but I've been burned too Her case was so hard to believe It was overturned, then I learned who Was keeping her card up her sleeve (Look into the mirror rather fondly) She's making it so hard to leave (Look into the mirror, look into the mirror) Cheat your reflection then Ooh, repeat the question once again (Oh yeah you all along) I couldn't read the writing No, I couldn't read it at all No, I couldn't read your writing, baby But now I seem to recall The answer was you Oh yeah, you all along The answer was you Oh yeah, you all along

Avoid the Filter Bubble (You Don't know what Facebook and Google are hiding)

When Eli Pariser explains the filter bubble concept and then calls out executives from Apple, Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and other IT gatekeepers from the main stage to change how they do business, it wasn’t at all clear how they’d react. Watch this bold TED Talk to find out (or watch a separate long 1hr version of the talk)

Chemical Brothers - Do It Again (LIVE at Fuji Rock 2007)

This entire Fuji Rock 2007 concert line-up was absolutely incredible: The Cure, Beastie Boys, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, The Answer, Kings of Leon, Simian Mobile Disco, Muse, The Ataris, Groove Armada, Ash, Less Than Jake, Yellowcard, Tokyo Ska Orchestra, Peter Bjorn & John, Mika, Joss Stone and many, many more... but surprisingly enough to me (who's not even into techno at all) it was the closing act on Sunday night, The Chemical Brothers, who rocked the Echigo-Sanzan mountains of Niigata the hardest...
