What are Recommendations?

Recommendations are endorsements for videos that you enjoy enough to want to send directly to a specific friend (or group of friends) as a friendly suggestion that they take a moment of their time to watch that video. Recommendations are great for videos that you consider "must-sees" and are usually a lot more personal than simply "Sharing" the video on a social bookmarking site like Digg or del.icio.us, or posting it on a message board, forum, or your profile in a Social Networking Service (SNS) like Facebook or MySpace.

A recommendation allows you to create a much closer connection with your friends, and tells them: "hey, i like this and if I think I know you, I'll bet you'll like it too". Making great recommendations can help your reputation because your friends will value the fact that you save them time of having to go look for interesting videos.

How do I make a Recommendation? (Recommendations)

There are currently 4 methods of receiving Recommendations on BC$:

  1. Profile - the default method for sending a recommendation through BC$ MobileTV is via the Friend Selector, which allows you to type a character to pull up a specific person in your list of friends and select the person you'd like to send your recommendation to. Recommendations sent this way will be pushed to the user's profile on BC$ and will show up in their Recommendation spinner
  2. SMS (Text) - the latest method of instantaneous communication, Text messaging is quickly outgrowing voice calls by volume and is even catching up by amount spent in some cases. You can save on SMS Text messaging your video recommendations by going through BC$ to send messages for under $0.10/msg. Larger bulk packages are also available from our SMS partner, Maritex. Recommendations sent this way are pushed to a specific friend's mobile handset (limit to 1 person at a time).
  3. Email - the traditional method of recommendation, simply sends an email to the user calling their attention to the video you are recommending. Our simple Email Recommendation form provides you a text field to easily add comma-separated email addresses you'd like to send the recommendation to, along with a small text area where you can type a brief message to the person or group you are recommending the video to.
  4. Automated - the latest option for recommendations, Automated Recommendations (or MoneyShots) are opt-in recommendations that are calculated (inferred) for you based on your personal profile.

You can choose to receive MoneyShots via Email, SMS text message, or have them pushed directly to your mobile profile. BC$ reserves the right to include Company Recommendations (like an advertisement or special promotion) within your inferred recommendations.

Can I delete/re-tract a Recommendation? (Recommendations)

No, you cannot retract a recommendation at this time, so please be sure to only recommend interesting videos that you really want your friends, family and/or colleagues to watch.
